Desi Holiday Style

The imagination of a teenage girl is incredible … especially when she’s misunderstood, in love and has a baby on the way.  Desi’s different looks were a reflection of her vivid imagination and bold stance on life.  Although she was silent to the world she did not go unnoticed.  I have so much gratitude for Keara Nelson, Tenika Brown and Tamica Davis for joining forces as Desi’s stylists.  Her look was a combination of us getting some of our own gear and purchasing unique items wherever we could find.  Thank you to Valerie Hicks for coming on as our seamstress and creating Desi’s perfect pregnant belly.

Billie Holiday Inspiration

I have a few favorite movies and Lady Sings the Blues is definitely one of them! I love the style of the film and fell in love with the music. That movie had me even more intrigued with Billie Holiday than I already was. Billie’s signature flower, her beauty, music and her complex life was a huge inspiration. I would literally listen to Billie’s music while writing this story.  The flower motif is in honor of Lady Day and Desi’s living-room and her Mama’s style are in celebration of that era.  Thank you Tenika Brown for helping me find some gorgeous flowers for Desi Holiday and thank you Teela for your patience and mixing and matching flowers with fits!

Desi Holiday Wardrobe

test text

Desi’s wardrobe became it’s own character, especially in this scene as her dress flows in the wind foreshadowing the storm to come.  As soon as Teela tried on this dress we were like hell yea that’s the one for Desi!

Desi's Hair & Make Up

I really have to give it up to the hair and make up artists. The looks were well thought out and the hair and make-up team were able to translate what I saw in my mind and add their own flare.  Thank you to Tenika Brown for the hair and make up and Chris Xavior Lozano for the specialized make-up!
